The Annals of the Heechee

The Heechee feel so mysterious and well-developed—I'm curious what inspired Pohl's vision of their society and technology.

The story builds so much tension, but some chapters felt a bit slower. Was that intentional to build suspense or just pacing choice?

The format gives it a documentary feel, but I wonder if it was to make the alien encounters feel more authentic or to explore different perspectives.
