[REVIEW] What to include in a takedown notice
Your notice must identify the copyrighted work, point to the infringing material on AskAuthor (URLs help), list your contact information, state in good faith that the use is not authorized, confirm under penalty of perjury that you are the rights holder or an authorized agent, and carry your physical or electronic signature. Missing elements will delay review.

If you believe your content was removed in error, you can file a counter-notice. It must identify the removed material, state under penalty of perjury that the removal was a mistake, include your contact information, consent to federal court jurisdiction, and carry your signature. If the original complainant does not file a lawsuit within 10–14 business days, we restore the content.

AskAuthor respects intellectual property rights. We respond to valid takedown notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512).

How to File a DMCA Takedown Notice
Your notice must include:
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim is infringed
- Identification of the material on AskAuthor that you claim infringes your work, with enough detail to locate it (e.g., URL)
- Your contact information (name, address, phone, email)
- A statement that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorized
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf
- Your physical or electronic signature
How to Submit
Email dmca@askauthor.io with subject "DMCA Takedown Notice". AskAuthor currently handles DMCA notices manually by email and does not provide an in-app DMCA form.
Counter-Notification
If you believe your content was removed in error, you may file a counter-notification. Your counter-notification must include:
- Identification of the removed material
- A statement under penalty of perjury that the removal was a mistake
- Your contact information (name, address, phone, email)
- Consent to the jurisdiction of the applicable federal court
- Your physical or electronic signature
We will restore content within 10–14 business days unless the original complainant files a court action.
Repeat Infringer Policy
Consistent with 17 U.S.C. § 512(i)(1)(A), AskAuthor has adopted and reasonably implements a policy providing for the termination, in appropriate circumstances, of accounts of users who are repeat infringers. Users who receive multiple valid DMCA takedown notices may have their accounts suspended or permanently terminated, and any paid subscriptions forfeited, at AskAuthor’s sole discretion.
Misrepresentation Warning
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material or activity is infringing, or that material or activity was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, may be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys’ fees, incurred by the alleged infringer, the copyright owner, or AskAuthor, as a result of our reliance upon such misrepresentation. Submit notices and counter-notices only after carefully considering whether the use in question is actually infringing or non-infringing (e.g., fair use).
