The way the past seemed to seep into the present made the setting almost a character itself. Did the author draw from real haunted house stories or create it entirely?

The pacing felt slow at times, but I was still hooked — was that intentional to create a sense of creeping dread? Would love to hear others' thoughts.

It made me question what was real and what was paranoia. I wonder if this approach was to mirror the character’s mental state or to keep readers guessing.
