Hierarchy of Needs

The pyramid structure has become iconic, but I wonder what inspired Maslow to visualize it this way and how he prioritized the needs.

The concepts seem so relevant, but I'm curious about real-life examples where understanding these needs changed someone's approach.

While influential, I know some psychologists critique the hierarchy's rigidity. Has anyone read recent discussions on its limitations?
