Archer's calm but probing perspective adds so much depth to the mystery. I wonder what inspired Macdonald to give him that particular personality.

The tension dipped a bit before ramping up again, which made me curious whether Macdonald was deliberately building suspense or just exploring the characters more deeply.

Between the decay of Los Angeles and the characters' personal struggles, there seems to be a commentary on aging and moral ambiguity. Would love to hear others' interpretations.
