The characters’ feelings of hope mixed with despair felt so raw. I wonder what inspired Vilhelm Moberg to focus so deeply on their inner worlds.

Their perseverance in the face of so many obstacles really moved me. I’m curious if others saw their journey as more about hope or sacrifice.

The shifting viewpoints added depth but also complexity. I wonder whether Moberg planned this structure from the start or it evolved during writing.
