The story seemed to focus heavily on character backgrounds and local details—was that intentional to build atmosphere or did it drag for others?

The atmosphere really adds to the mood, but I'm curious if the author based it on a real place or created it entirely from imagination.

It kept the suspense high but also made me question whether I could trust the narrators at certain points. Was that a deliberate choice?
