The setting feels so alive and layered with history — I wonder how much research went into creating that atmosphere and how it influenced the supernatural aspects.

The buildup was intense but then it felt like it lost steam for a bit — was that intentional to build tension or just me struggling with the rhythm?

The way the city’s history and buildings are intertwined with the plot is fascinating. I’d love to know if Ackroyd saw these elements as characters in their own right.
