The rich historical backdrop adds so much atmosphere, but I'm curious whether Greenwood drew from real events or crafted a fictional world.

The story seemed to pick up again towards the end, but I was wondering if that slower section was intentional to build suspense or character depth.

The descriptions of the Australian landscape and water scenes felt so vivid — did the setting serve as a character itself, or was it more just atmospheric background?
