The social customs and class distinctions add so much flavor, but I wonder what drew the author to this particular period and how much research went into it.

The emotional undercurrents made me root for the characters, but I was curious if the author intentionally layered their feelings with more nuance.

The Christian themes felt woven seamlessly, but I’d love to know if that was a conscious choice to reflect the characters’ inner journeys.
