Marsh’s depiction of detective procedures and police interactions feels very of its time. Did anyone else find this perspective refreshing or outdated?

The detailed descriptions of police procedures and social context add depth, but I wonder what motivated Marsh to focus so much on the constables' perspective.

The characters often operate in gray areas, which made me question what I would do in their place. Did this nuance make the story more impactful for others?
