The detailed portrayal of Roman life and conflict made the setting feel so vivid — I wonder what sources or creative choices influenced this depiction.

The moral gray areas added depth to the story, but I kept wondering how much of that was inspired by real historical figures or educated guesses.

It’s a lesser-known frontier outpost, and choosing it gave the novel a fresh perspective on Roman Britain — I’d love to hear what drew Goldsworthy to this location.
