Thomas More (1478–1535) was an English lawyer, social philosopher, and Renaissance humanist known for writing Utopia, which explores an ideal society. He served as Lord High Chancellor under Henry VIII and opposed the Protestant Reformation and the King's break from the Catholic Church. He was canonized as a martyr in 1935.
