The way the characters grappled with their pasts and selves felt so authentic. I wonder how much of that was inspired by real stories from the era.

The contrasting settings added so much depth and atmosphere. I'm curious whether the author visited these places or if they were built from research.

There were moments where I wanted the story to move faster, but I also appreciated the pauses for reflection. Wondering if this was a conscious craft decision.
