Their relationship feels so central and intense — I wonder what inspired the author to focus so heavily on brotherhood amidst all the chaos.

The book was quite dark, but I was more unsettled by the mental struggles than the graphic scenes. Is that what Shan was aiming for?

The unique setting and creatures came to life so convincingly. I’d love to know if this universe was mapped out from the start or developed as the story grew.
