The designs are so whimsical and unique—I'm curious whether they were based on real animals or entirely imagined by the author. How did the creative process shape these characters?

The story balances hope with real environmental concerns. I wonder how much of that was influenced by current issues facing our oceans today.

It’s really meaningful to see representation in a book for young readers. I’d love to know what inspired those choices and how they approached it for a young audience.
