William McIlvanney
William McIlvanney was a Scottish author known for his gritty yet poetic fiction and poetry. His works Laidlaw, The Papers of Tony Veitch, and Strange Loyalties depict Glasgow in the 1970s. Often called the father of Tartan Noir, he also wrote acclaimed poetry and received the Whitbread Novel Award for Docherty.
