The setting feels so vivid and layered — I wonder whether it was planned from the start or evolved during writing. Did the author draw from current events or create this entirely from imagination?

Some decisions felt morally grey, which made me question what I would do in similar circumstances. Am I the only one who found myself rooting for characters who made questionable moral calls?
