The characters' motivations felt so real, but I wonder how much of that was driven by the plot versus character development. Did the emotional layers come naturally during writing?

The moral ambiguity kept me guessing about what I would do in the same situation. How do readers reconcile liking a character who takes justice into their own hands?

The atmosphere added so much tension and realism. I'm curious whether the author based it on a real place or created it from imagination.
