Linda Sue Park did a fantastic job capturing the spirit of the tradition, but I wonder what inspired her to focus on kite fighting as a central theme.

The kids' determination to win the kite contest felt so uplifting, but I’m curious if others saw it as a reflection of real cultural values or just a fun story.

The characters respect their heritage but also adapt to new ideas. I wonder if this was a deliberate message from the author about change.
