I was fully engaged at the start and end, but the middle chapters felt a tad slower. Was that intentional to build tension or just a natural part of the plot?

The clues felt perfectly timed, making me want to piece things together without giving everything away too soon. I'm wondering if this was a conscious strategy during writing.
