The way the Downsiders live beneath the surface felt like a mix of adventure and danger. I wonder how much of their world-building was inspired by real-world underground communities.

The characters’ struggles with who they are versus who they’re expected to be added so much emotional depth. Did anyone else feel connected to their journey of self-discovery?

The detailed environment made the story feel so immersive. I’m curious whether Neal Shusterman drew from any real-world history or myths when creating this setting.
