Bad Dirt

The stories paint a vivid picture of rural America, but I wonder if they challenge our assumptions or just reinforce them. Did anyone else feel a particular story changed their perspective?

The sense of place feels so authentic and lived-in. I'm curious whether these stories are based on real people or entirely fictional, or a mix of both.

Some stories felt slow and contemplative, while others moved quickly. I wonder if Proulx aimed for this variation to evoke different emotional responses.
