Burke's descriptions really pull you into the dark and tense world of the story. I'm curious what inspired the tone and setting choices.

The story seemed to focus heavily on the characters' motivations and pasts. Was that intentional to deepen the suspense or a natural result of the writing style?

The local flavor and atmosphere added so much authenticity. I wonder how much of that was based on real places or stories from the author’s experiences.
