Chandler's characters often walk the line between right and wrong. I'm curious whether this was a conscious effort to reflect the corrupt city or a commentary on human nature itself.

It took a while for the plot to pick up, but I wonder if Chandler wanted to build atmosphere and tension before the mystery fully unraveled.

The city feels like a character itself, with its blend of glamour and decay. I’d love to know if Chandler drew from real places or created an idealized version of LA.
