Eggers’ choice to tell this personal story really brought the human side of disaster to light. I wonder what drew him to this particular story and character.

There were times when Zeitoun seemed to accept his fate silently, which made me wonder how much of that was cultural, personal, or strategic. How did others interpret his reactions?
