The characters' journey feels so rich and layered, but I wonder what motivated the author to keep expanding their story across multiple books. Was it planned from the start or did the characters take on a life of their own?

The descriptions of 18th-century life are so vivid that they draw you in, but at times I found myself wishing for a bit more pacing. Was this level of detail intentional to build the world, or did it evolve during writing?
