Pacific Rim

I loved how the book added depth to the characters and setting beyond the movie, but I'm curious about what was left out or changed. Did anyone feel the story was richer because of these additions?

The story moves quickly from one action scene to the next, which kept me on the edge of my seat. I wonder if the fast pace was meant to mirror the intensity of the movie's battles.

The detailed descriptions of the mech combat and tech felt like a core part of the story. I wonder if the author had a fascination with engineering or if it was driven by the film's emphasis.
