Gemmell blends real historical elements with fantasy — I wonder which events or cultures inspired his world-building and if there are specific sources he drew from.

Their shifting allegiances made me think about how power can corrupt even the most steadfast. Was that intentional to show the fleeting nature of loyalty?

The different viewpoints added depth, but I’m curious if that structure was planned from the start or developed during the writing process.
