The depiction of societal collapse felt both bleak and insightful. Did anyone else find themselves reflecting on our own world while reading?

The character’s emotional distance made me wonder if Houellebecq was commenting on the alienation many feel today. Was this intentional or a reflection of his personal perspective?

The slow sections gave a sense of introspection but also challenged my engagement. I’m curious if this was a deliberate stylistic choice.
