I Am a Cat

Using a feline narrator adds a layer of humor and satire that's so unique. I'm curious whether Soseki intended this as a commentary on human society or if it evolved naturally from the story.

The satirical jabs at social pretensions and foolishness seem timeless, but some of the references felt very period-specific. Did others find it as relevant or humorous now as when it was first published?

The critique of social norms and class distinctions is biting but playful. I wonder if the satire would have been received differently by different classes at the time or how modern readers interpret it.
