The mood of the book is so visceral and unsettling at times, I wonder if that was a conscious choice from the start or something that evolved during writing.

The characters' complex motivations made me question what I would do in their situation. Am I the only one who felt conflicted about rooting for them?

The contrast between the intense darkness and tender scenes was striking. I’m curious whether that balance was planned or developed as the story progressed.
