The borderlands have such a layered and contentious history that shaped Ukraine’s identity. I'm curious what motivated the author to highlight these specific areas.

The book's insights into current conflicts added a lot of weight to the past events. I wonder if others felt this connection deepened their understanding of Ukraine today.
