Arthurian Romances

His choices seem to define much of what we think of as classic Arthurian stories. I wonder what inspired his selection of these particular romances.

The tales are full of knights, quests, and magic, but sometimes I wondered how much of it was meant to be taken literally versus as allegory or entertainment.
