The world-building feels so immersive and sinister — I'm curious whether the author created the setting first or developed it alongside the characters.

Their vulnerabilities and motives made me question what makes someone truly 'bad' or 'good.' How did the author balance empathy for both sides?

The novella delivers a lot in a short span, and I'm interested in how the pacing was planned to sustain suspense and intimacy simultaneously.
