I loved the world-building but found myself unsure about some of the rules. Did the author clarify how the magic works later on?

I was rooting for them but also felt conflicted about some of their choices. Did anyone else feel the emotional stakes were really high?

It added layers to the characters and plot, making me wonder about the author's personal interests or experiences that influenced this.
