I'm curious if Joanna Cole wanted to highlight a specific butterfly species or simply loved the idea of nature's tiny warriors engaging in a fun 'battle.'

The pictures are so vibrant and lively — I wonder how much collaboration there was between the author and illustrator to capture that whimsical feel.
