The story feels both familiar and fresh, but I'm curious about how much creative freedom Elizabeth Rudnick took in shaping her version.

The characters seemed to have a bit more agency and humor than I expected. Did that shift come from the author's interpretation or the target age group?

Most versions emphasize the Beast, but this one centers Beauty's feelings and thoughts. I wonder what led to that storytelling decision.
