The author paints a bleak picture of society’s collapse, but I wondered how much of that tension is rooted in real fears about authority today.

The world-building felt vivid and believable, which made me curious whether Birmingham drew inspiration from actual events or crafted it entirely from scratch.

There were moments I wanted to pause and breathe, but the story kept pushing forward. Curious if others felt the same or if it was a deliberate choice to heighten suspense.
