I'm curious whether the author drew from real cases or crafted the plot entirely from imagination. Did any real events influence the story's twists?

The tension picked up again towards the end, but I wondered if the slower sections were meant to give us time to analyze clues or develop characters.

The main character's questionable choices added complexity but also made me question their motivations. I wonder what influenced this particular characterization.
