Westlake’s wit shines through, but I was curious how he kept the stakes high while making us laugh. Did anyone else feel the humor softened the danger or added to it?

The characters felt so real in their imperfections, but I wonder if their personalities were based on real people or came purely from imagination. Anyone want to share insights?

The story moved smoothly, but there were moments where I wondered if the humor plateaued — was that intentional to build anticipation for the next twist?
