The Epiplectic Bicycle

Gorey's distinctive illustrations give the story a haunting charm. I'm curious how much of that was a conscious artistic choice versus organic to the story.

The whimsical moments are charming, but the darker elements made me wonder if Gorey was intentionally blending childhood wonder with a touch of the macabre.

The illustrations seem to carry a lot of the narrative weight, making me wonder how Gorey decided what to depict visually versus what to leave to the imagination.
