Ellroy's vivid descriptions really pulled me into 1940s Los Angeles. I wonder what influenced his depiction of the city’s underbelly.

The novel shows so much corruption and moral ambiguity. It made me question how much has changed or stayed the same since then.

The shifting viewpoints added layers to the mystery, but I’m curious if that was planned from the beginning or developed during writing.
