The world-building felt so visceral and believable — I wonder whether the author drew from real events or imagined this entirely. What do you think led to the specific way society unraveled here?

Some decisions felt morally grey but realistic, which made me question what I’d do in their place. Am I the only one who found myself rooting for characters I usually wouldn’t?
