The variety of creatures is wild and imaginative — I wonder what the design process was like for these entries and how much of it was based on existing folklore versus pure invention.

There are so many entries, it almost feels like a bestiary in itself. How do game masters decide which creatures to include or use in their campaigns?

Some of these monsters feel like they could easily appear in newer editions or inspired games. Do you think this book helped set a standard for creature design in tabletop role-playing games?
