The pacing sped up considerably, making some plot points feel rushed. Was that a deliberate choice to heighten tension or just my impression?

The blending of genres added a unique flavor, but I wonder if the sci-fi aspects were planned from the start or evolved during writing.

A few characters seemed to act without fully explained reasons, which made me curious about whether their backstories were fleshed out more behind the scenes.
