The artwork evoked such strong emotions for me, especially around themes of displacement and hope. How did others connect emotionally with the characters' journeys?

The detailed environments and fantastical elements seem so intentional. I wonder if Shaun Tan mapped out this world extensively or let it grow organically during illustration.
