The way the characters come together to create a new society felt both hopeful and tense. I wonder what the author envisioned about human nature in such extreme circumstances.

The book forced me to think about how we might react when survival is on the line. Were these decisions realistic or too moralistically simplified?

The rural French landscape gave the novel a unique flavor, but I’m curious whether the themes would feel different set elsewhere.
