Epitaph for a Spy

The novel is set against the backdrop of wartime Europe, but I'm curious how much of the characters' dilemmas reflect real historical tensions or are purely fictional.

The characters are constantly torn between their duty and personal safety, which made me wonder how much of that internal conflict was based on real espionage experiences.

Seeing the world through the spy's eyes added layers of complexity to the narrative, and I wonder if that was a deliberate choice to deepen the reader's empathy.
